Julie & Julia, the movie starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Stanley Tucci, is about a food blogger named Julie Powell that decides to cook her way through Julia Child's cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
Steamy Kitchen Modern Asian
Jaden Hair, Steamy Kitchen's blogger extraodinaire, had a predicament. She was invited to go to Los Angeles for an exclusive screening of the new movie, Julie & Julia, but she couldn't make it. So she posted an entry on her blog on July 5th asking for comments – a sales pitch really – telling her why you would be the best person to go as her correspondent. Jaden ended up getting 274 comments. Not all of them were throwing their hats in the ring like me. Some comments were more a fan club supporting their favorite bloggers.
Sounding My Barbaric Gulp
When it came time to pick the winner on July 6th – the lucky blogger that would represent her in LA – Jaden asked a 17 year old high school student she met on Twitter for the first time that day, to pick out 10 comments out of a total of 274. Despite his young age, he was very diplomatic and took his role seriously. He read each and every comment and went to every blog, looking for 10 bloggers that stood out. Jaden then went back to Twitter and asked for a random number from one to ten. The winning number was 6 – Kelly from Sounding My Barbaric Gulp!
Julia Child's, Mastering the Art of French Cooking
Back in April of 2007, Kelly wrote a post, Inspired: A Culinary Project. In it, she explains what prompted her to start blogging. She had just gotten through the first 100 pages of Julie & Julia, and decided to start cooking the very next day. Her first recipe? Potage Parmentier from a 1966 edition of Julia Child's cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking she bought from Amazon. It's no wonder her blog stood out and caught the attention of The Sophisticated Gourmet.
Julie & Julia Movie
Kelly gets an all-expense paid trip by Sony Pictures with free air fare, 2 nights accommodations, car transportation, and I'm sure a whole lot more than she can ever imagine! Kelly's job will be to fly to LA on Wednesday, watch the exclusive screening of the movie Julie & Julia, attend all events relating to the movie, cooking demonstration, food styling how-to's, and then write about her experience as a guest blogger on Steamy Kitchen!
Within a few hours of receiving the great news, there was a lot of congratulatory comments on Steamy Kitchen and Twitter, and a few not so nice comments which prompted a virtual hand-slapping of the pouting commenters. Why can't people just be happy for this obviously talented blogger?
Congratulations Kelly!
Did I say I was also one of those contestants, already packed and ready to go? It wasn't meant to be for me this time around. But we can all congratulate Kelly on her good fortune. I'm thrilled for her, and can't wait to read about her adventures in Los Angeles, schmoozing with the stars!
