While off the beaten path, Thomas-McBroom designed Tobiano continues to receive laurels in its second year of operation, receiving the Best Public Golf Course as well as the Best Condition Course in British Columbia from a panel of golf raters with SCOREGolf Magazine.
"This recognition by such an expert panel and publication that truly is the voice of golf in Canada is a great honour," said Miles Mortensen, general manager and director of golf.
Mortensen then praised the tireless efforts of Superintendent Terry Smith, who has been overseeing things since the first days of construction more than three years ago, and his staff for the immaculate condition of the course.
"The comments from golfers about the fairways and the greens and the smiles on their faces have been reward enough for myself and my crews," Smith said.
Previously the same Canadian publication along with Golf Digest named Tobiano the Best New Course in Canada for 2008.
Having been a member of the Golf Digest rating panel for more than 40 years, I've rated only one new course higher and that was National National, a Tom Fazio gem in Dallas. So I would have no qualms about recommending it at all. It's definitely one of the most picturesque golf courses anywhere with views of Kamloops Lake on every hole and roller-coaster fairways with dramatic elevation changes bordered by arroyos with natural grasses and cacti.
The golf course is located 17kms west of Kamloops, B.C., a three-hour driver from Vancouver or from the Canada/US border or via flights from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton or Prince George.
It's part of a resort community where more than 300 lots and town home sites have been purchased and there are a sprinkling of completed homes and town homes. Go to www.tobianoliving.com.
