John Hodgman demonstrates his car-killing fists

Hey, fanboys. A glut of miscellaneous nerd icons will invade our city over the next week or so. Here's a list with accompanying comic book significance

Tonight, John Hodgman will perform a "secret show," despite not being a cult underground indie band. Bring your copy of his More Information Than You Require to gain admittance to Second City e.t.c. for the 9:30 show. Copies of Baby Mama will do nothing.

Relevant to comics because: Hodgman famously challenged President Obama to a nerd quiz testing rudimentary Conan the Barbarian comic book knowledge.

This Thursday and Friday nights, November 14 and 15 at The Vic: Akron's own Devo! I wonder if they'll play that whipping song.

Relevant to comics because: A version of their song "Girl U Want" appeared on the Tank Girl soundtrack. Devo is also an X-Men character.

This Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, Dana Snyder and Dave Willis of Aqua Teen Hunger Force will perform Aqua Teen Hunger Force Live at the Lakeshore Theater, which invariably will involve small objects exploding as Snyder throws them to the ground.

Relevant to comics because: Snyder's voice once appeared in the animated version of the comic strip Boondocks. He has also attended Comic-Con International.

Monday, November 16 brings restaurateur, harmonica player and motorcycle enthusiast Dan Aykroyd to Jewel Oscos in the city from 3pm to 6pm - the Diversey and Ashland location in particular. Twitter twells me that he'll be here to sign bottles of his Dan Aykroyd Wines, but unfortunately not his Indiana Jones 4 vodka.

Relevant to comics because: Aykroyd's Ghostgetters franchise has spawned dozens of comic books. He was also seen briefly in the 1995 film adaptation of the Casper comic.

Pixies are appearing three nights at the Aragon next week, from November 19 through 21, for a series of rehearsed musical recitals.

Relevant to comics because: Pixies song "I've Been Tired" plays during a comic book store scene in Unbreakable. Their "Tony's Theme" is a song about a superhero. Named Tony.

Entirely justified, right?
