I've seen a lot of games come through the Apple app store and the best one to date has to be Rolando developed by Hand Circus and published by mgmoco, Inc.
The first thing you will notice about Rolando (I'm pronouncing it (Ro-lawn-do) is the graphics. There's not much to it but flat 2-d characters along with bright and colorful characters make this game appealing to the eyes especially on the iPhone screen.
The best part of Rolando is the game is actually fun to play. Your goal is simply rescuing a certain amount of "Rolandos" to advance to the next stage. Do not let the cute graphics fool you. Each stage is challenging with puzzles and obstacles. You move around by swiping motions on the screen to make the "Rolando" jump or tilt the device to the left or right to roll them. I never had any difficulties with the controls as they felt natural and responsive. Replay value is a plus as you can gain achievements and collect things laying around such as diamonds to get a higher score.
Rolando is a seriously what an iPhone/iTouch game should be: fun, attractive and easy to play a stage or two while you wait in line at the coffee shop or waiting for your movie to start at the theater. I give this game 5 out of 5 stars.
As of the writing of this post, the game is current on sale for $5.99 at the Apple iTunes Store. The original price was $9.99 and I'm not sure if this is a special offer but I highly recommend you to pick it up today.
