It has to be said. Apple's iPhone (or iTouch, the non-phone version) is indeed the next generation of handheld gaming. Ever since Apple opened up its App Store on July 10, 2008 to distribute software for their iPhone, developers and game enthusiast have clamored about the possibilities of portable gaming on their iPhone.
The iPhone is slowly creeping into the handheld gaming market because it utilizes the iPhone's Accelerometer, giving it motion-control gestures to games made famous by the Nintendo Wii and the ability to use your finger as a stylus like the DS. The graphic goes beyond what Sony's PSP can handle and even though the iPhone is considered more of a smartphone where productivity comes first, you can't ignore the potentials the iPhone can do in gaming.
There is nothing you can't do on the iPhone that you are doing in your living room with the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. You enjoy Guitar Hero? How about Tap Tap Revenge? What about something more casual? Try Critter Crunch or Bubble Bash. What about something for the dedicated gamers? There's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Monkey Ball. The list is growing and with more and more games being announced daily there would be something for everybody.
The recent releases of games like Star Wars: the Force Unleased and EA's Spore proved that games can be successful with simulamous launches on other gaming platforms. With the combination of the App Store and the iPhone, there will be more feature releases in the future and I cannot wait to see what they will push out next!
