Newsman Walter Cronkite has passed away

News anchor Walter Cronkite has passed away. He was 92 years old. Cronkite died Friday at his home in New York after a long illness, according to CBS Vice President Linda Mason.

Cronkite was a long-time anchor for CBS, once called "the most trusted man in America." He anchored the "CBS Evening News" for 19 years, starting in 1962. He was with the country through the Kennedy assassination, Vietnam, the Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, the Watts riots, the moon landing, the Nixon Watergate scandal, Three Mile Island... the list goes on and on.
With all the popularity and talk of "American Idol" in the recent years, it is important to remember true American idols. The country has lost one of the great men of the 20th century today. He is preceded in death by wife Betsy Maxwell Cronkite and survived by three children, Nancy, Cathy and Walter the III and four grandchildren.
