Nature of Grace
Grace, by its very nature cannot be earned. Romans 11:6 Grace is a free gift, given freely to one who does not deserve it. Works result in earnings…thus they cannot be gifts. The spiritual gifts are one of the attributes of Grace. A gift earned is the opposite of Grace. Romans 4:4…in fact there is a warning against those that work towards their own righteousness. Galatians 5:1-4. Paul warns against anyone trying to ‘work’ through the law, through personal effort to accomplish righteousness. Paul goes onto say that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing…but will put you back UNDER he law and as such into bondage. Imagine placing yourself back under the law, right into bondage, even as you were attempting to work towards your own righteousness…you accomplish something totally alien to what Christ came to accomplish. This is the deception I was referring to in the first article – “Defining Grace”.
Those that attempt to earn salvation – loose it. Those that attempt to earn righteousness loose it too. You cannot earn your way into heaven through works, donations to churches, finances, fulfilling the Law or any other manner. There is only one way into Heaven – that is through Grace. Ephesians 2:8 goes onto say that Grace gives us salvation even though it (salvation) was unmerited. Grace gives the unmerited a gift beyond measure, at a cost to you of zero. There is no cost for receiving Grace. Let me repeat that in case you miss this point. There is NO COST for Grace. It is totally free to you. No shipping and handling fees, no taxes, no hidden fees, totally free. This is not a bait and switch scam that you encounter on so many TV offers. Bottom line – you do not have to do anything to be a recipient…in fact if you add works, you place yourself outside of the Grace of Christ!
Now, I realize this will cause some comment – so feel free to comment away. No works nothing. No balance required, just Grace.
