Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen! Science attempts to conduct an experiment that when repeated by a different scientist will produce the exact same results. Failure to produce the same result (provided that the experiment was repeated in the exact same manner) casts doubt on the results. With the discovery of quantum physics this created some problems. Firstly, the quantum particles would act in accordance with the observers expectations and not independently! Imagine this, the result of the observation was affected each and every time by the observer. In plain English, and please forgive me if you are a quantum scientist for putting it this way, the molecules will act in the manner of the observer’s expectation.
In modern day society we are taught that seeing is believing. This can also be put as follows :”Observing is scientific, and observations leads us to make deductions based upon our observations. Historians will tell you that History repeats itself. Now quantum physics gives us another picture entirely. As we believe so we will see. Believing is expecting, and our expectation influences the unseen realm (quantum level of matter) creating a reality to meet our expectations.
Okay, that is a mouth full. Let me sum that up into simpler terms. All matter is made up of particles that can be studied by quantum physicists using very special equipment. Using this specialized equipment they have made a startling discovery. You will “see” what you believe/expect to see.
This is a major “wow” statement because Jesus said the same thing over 2,000 years ago in Hebrew/Aramaic. It was translated into Greek and then into English, but the thought is the same, and now its finally been proved by modern day technology. The Apostle Paul said it like this:”Faith is the substance (quantum level molecules?) of things hoped for, but not seen with the naked eye. (I have paraphrased Hebrews 11:1).
Jesus said it like this:” If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes”. (Mark 9:23). He repeated this again in Mark 11:23-24. In light of the major discoveries in Quantum Physics, we can now understand how Jesus could say, if you can believe, pray and you will receive what you ask for. If I may once again reduce this to simpler English for myself rather than for you, dear reader, what Jesus was saying is revolutionary. He in fact was saying that the molecules within matter will rearrange themselves according to the observer’s expectation/belief.
My prayer today is similar to the father who said to Jesus, :”Help my unbelief, Lord”.
