Kelly Clarkson: Another victim of yo yo dieting

Kelly performing May 2009

Kelly Clarkson was the biggest girl on American Idol when she won back in 2002. Since winning she has managed to shed the pounds and get down to 115 lbs. in 2004 due to a low carb diet and 90 min workouts.  Over the years we have seen her weight go up and down.  Most recently she performed in LA at the Wango Tango Concert and shocked fans when she performed on stage at what appeared to be a whopping 165 lbs. according to NYC based fitness expert Joe Catalano.  Clarkson is only 5’3, at 165 lbs. she puts herself at risk by being 35lbs over her ideal weight. 

In the past Kelly has said, “I’ve always been thicker, I don’t believe in dieting.”  A possible reason for the recent weight gain could be stress.  Her last album in 2007 My December did not do well. Due to the disappointment in sales Kelly turned to food and began to over eat.  With the success of her new album All I Ever Wanted she barely has time to work out and grabs whatever she can while working.  She is a huge fan of cookie dough, chocolate, foods with cream filling and steak!

Although Clarkson is completely fine with her appearance she has decided to take charge and begin losing weight for her health.  After suffering from bulimia in high school she wants to make sure not to revisit that again, so she is hiring a trainer and jumping back on the treadmill.  It’s important to Kelly that she continues to provide a positive self-image for her curvier fans and not give into a crash dieting.
