Burn Halo is the brainchild of James Hart, the former lead singer of Eighteen Visions- which abruptly called it quits in 2007 as the band was making headway in the rock world. Hart wasted no time forming the new band, which blended his lyrical passion once in his former band, with his love for classic hard rock. While at Rock on the Range, I had a chance to sit down with James Hart and discussed how he formed Burn Halo and the harrowing experience of releasing the new record. Here’s my interview with James:

AM: How pleased have you been with the response by fans for the first two singles, “Save Me” & “Dirty Little Girl”?
JH: A lot of stations are picking “Save Me” right now. That’s cool, but we really weren’t planning on releasing it until “Dirty Little Girl” ran its course. Right now, we’re doing well at the charts, perhaps climb into the Top 10. We’re hoping it just continues to build momentum over the next few months or so.

AM: How did you end up working with Zac Maloy (of Nixons fame) to produce the record?
JH: My manager met with him to discuss things just on a songwriting record and see what sort of record we wanted to make. I went out to Tulsa back in 2007 to write four songs with them- we had really good chemistry and the band took off from there.

AM: How frustrating was releasing this record due to the switching of record labels during the process?
JH: It was tough, there was somewhat a letdown factor over it, but I am proud of the way the record turned out. In the end, I had far more creative control and far more involvement in the whole process as we. When you’re with a major label, you tend to lose that control. Part of those issues is what lead to the destruction of my old band, Eighteen Visions. I feel like I am at a really good place now and happy with it now.

AM: What sort of influences did you draw from for this project?
JH: I’ve always been pushing Eighteen Visions in a rock direction, so when I had a chance to do this record, I really wanted to push this band into what I really wanted to do and my love for hard rock. I love bands like Guns n Roses, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden and wanted to deliver my own style of that sort of music. I probably would have never been able to do that in my previous band. I made the modern rock record I wanted to make and had that classic feel to it as well.

AM: How did the band come up with the logo for the band?
JH: You know, I am a fan of old wild west artwork over the years. A kid hit me up on our MySpace page as we were starting to redo the page, and just went wild with the page and the logo was created. I loved the look and we kept it.

Burn Halo will be playing with Halestorm at the I-Rock Nightclub on Friday, June 12th. Tickets are $10 and available at www.ticketmaster.com.  Burn Halo’s self titled record is current out on Rawkhead Records.  Additional dates and band info is available at www.myspace.com/burnhalo.
