Well, it’s definitely not the name of a new radio show or some big promotion or anything, but for one Monday night two hours from Detroit when Metallica invades Grand Rapids as the band plays a sold out Van Andel Arena. Still touring behind the wildly successful and well received album “Death Magentic”, Metallica is in the home stretch of touring behind the record.
After a stellar show in Detroit in January that people I know are still talking about, the band continues there in the round setting for the show that Detroiters can only wish would be here, or will make the two hour drive on a Monday night to the west side of Michigan for. But for fans that miss this show, the band is planning on releasing a live DVD of their show in Nimes, France from this summer on November 23rd, only available through www.metallicanimes.com (should cost around $25). But if you are planning on making the show in Grand Rapids, it will be one of the smallest venues (around 11,000) that you will probably see the band is this small of a venue.
Opening for Metallica is the current new school metal titans Lamb of God, who always are bound to upstage bands they play before. In the past, they upstaged Megadeth on the Gigantour in 2006 and arguably upstaged Ozzy Osbourne at the OzzFest 2007. But Metallica is up for the challenge, and will provide a great show no matter what. Danish metal-rockabilly outfit Volbeat open up the show, and are gaining some fans during their set with their Motorhead meets Social Distortion style sound.
Metallica plays at Van Andel Arena on Monday, November 9th. Tickets are sold out, but if tickets become available, they will at www.ticketmaster.com.
