Last Saturday, the sun rose over the Earth’s atmosphere. And as it did, I too did the same. I had a feeling that the day was going to be abnormal. And abnormal it was. With a false sense of conviction, I told myself that I was going to discipline my out-of-shape body with exercise. Pilates seems to be the hip exercise of the world, so I tried to spin with the current of pop culture as I prepared my routine. To my surprise, I completed the laid out exercise program, although with considerable difficulty.

And with the confidence that was glowing from my completion of the Pilates exercise, I sat down with my planner and planned the day.
Concerts and more concerts were on the agenda. Orlando’s Everyday I at 9pm @ BackBooth; Cobra Starship at 10pm @ The Social; Atlanta’s Fishhawk at 11pm @ The A.K.A lounge; and the Cobra Starship after party at Midnight @ Sky 60. Although abnormality was lurking in the back of my mind, normality was striding along my path with its usual accuracy.

Downtown was pretty busy even for a Saturday night. A certain abstract electricity flowed its energy through the grids of the street ways like a revitalizing tonic refreshing their strength. My brain, although curious of the meaning of this energy, was ignorant to its reason. Finally I figured it out. It was the faces in the crowd who enlightened me. The faces, young high schoolers, middle schoolers and possibly even younger than that lined the streets of Orlando all because of the coming Cobra Starship show. At times, the atmosphere felt like the bombardment of a publicly-sponsored class trip event to show the children of Central Florida what night life was like in the ‘Big City.’
Regardless, I had an agenda to follow, a strict schedule focused on Journalism. But, first things first…whiskey (and cheap whiskey at that)! Next, Everyday I was at The BackBooth.

As the clock struck 9, the four-pieced band took the stage. Rather new to the scene as Everday I, the members of the band are well known musicians in and out of Orlando. Although it seemed like their energy from a theatrical standpoint was rather fatigued, their craft and actual talent was utterly outstanding. Lead singer Harrison’s voice was as powerful as any as familiar rock chords powered through the set, precise and distinct. I hope to see more of this band in the future.

After their set I rushed over to the Social to catch the second half of Cobra Starship. The venue was packed out with screaming fans of a younger persuasion, singing to every lyric as if they wrote it themselves. As hot steaming bodies dispensed enough heat to protect Eskimos from the arctic cruelty, the band whose top ten hit, “Good Girls Go Bad,” intensified the club with a theatrical explosion of cheers. With such a combination of youth and material, it was as if I were at a Jonas Brothers concert from allegorical Hell. As I finally escaped the pep rally of foul-mouthed youth, I ran back over a couple of blocks to see one of my favorite bands, Fishhawk.

Before I continue, I must allow myself to enter into this story the grotesque reality of Orlando City Parking. In other words, so enters the abnormal night of stress and anxiety. Instead of parking in a garage as I usually do, I decide to park along the main artery of the entertainment district of Downtown Orlando, Orange Avenue. And because of this dim-witted decision, my car gets towed… Hours pass…

Meanwhile, back at the A.K.A lounge, ignorant of my misfortune, I immersed myself in the chaotic and mind blowing show of Fishhawk, a band unique to planet Earth itself (see my article on Fishhawk). As I was lost within the trance, Fishhawk bestowed upon its victims (the audience) time continued with inevitability, as one more task was yet to be checked off. The Cobra Starship after party was on the roof of the Social at the club, Sky 60.

As I arrived with my super duper top secret ticket to the private party, I feared out of control shenanigans of revelry. To my pleasant surprise, it was instead a nice end to a hectic night… So I thought.

As I walked down the streets of a bubbling Orange Avenue filing out in chaotic fashion, I headed to my car. It wasn’t there.

As the time ticked to 4am, my options were winding down to nothing. Frantically, I searched for a friend to bail me out. Fortunately, Super Promoter and Co-owner of Monster Nature, Sarah Conness, came to my rescue. For hours we searched for the impound lot miles away from downtown. As the moon fell and the sun rose, I finally got my car. After hours of signing paper work and going through identity checks with the help of Sarah and family, the evil towers released the chariot from the hands of the oppression bonds and allowed me to drive it back home. I arrived home at 9am (the time I woke the day before). And so goes the day in the life of a music journalist.

P.S. Here’s some free advice. Spend $5 for a parking garage instead of $155 for a tow fee.
Sadly, that’s just me; make up your own mind. Peace!!!!!!!!!!!

This article is dedicated to Sarah Conness, Frank, Pam and Nick Valentin for sacrificing their sleep to bail out their stupid friend, brother and son! Thank you!
