November 3, 2009 will be the 2009 Municipal General Election in Detroit.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, a Municipal General Election will be held for the position of Mayor, City Clerk, City Council, Charter Commission, Board of Education At-Large, and three proposals in Detroit.

Here's a quick glimpse of the ballot. Please review and research the candidates.

The candidates for Mayor are:

For County Proposition O, a operating millage renewal, the purpose is to renew the millage authorized in 2000 to continue to levy this millage at the estimated 2008 rollback rate for ten years (2010-2019) and the proceeds to be used to continue existing County services including programs for the arrest, detention, and prosecution of criminals and juvenile court and related services, public health, recreation, County parks, job training, senior citizen services, and programs for meeting medical needs of the poor, the disabled, and the aged.  This renewal is projected to generate $43,495,573 in 2010.

For the City of Detroit Proposal D, a charter amendment, the purpose is for the Detroit City Charter to be amended to require district residency for seven of the nine City Council members from each of seven districts and two members to be elected at-large.

Finally, the Detroit Public School District Proposal S, which is a bond proposal to all the School District of the City of Detroit to borrow the principal sum of not to exceed Five Hundred Million Five Hundred Forty Thousand Dollars and issue its unlimited tax obligation bonds for the purpose of defraying the cost of constructing new replacement buildings and/or additions to existing buildings; remodeling existing buildings, including energy conservation, safety and security improvements; acquiring, improving, and developing sites including playgrounds, play fields, and outdoor athletic facilities in the School District; furnishing and/or refurnishing and equipping and/or reequipping School District buildings; acquiring and installing instructional technology. This is a valuable resource to provide the tools to succeed in this highly competitive global economy.
