It used to be that when I thought of a snow day I would cringe. I wasn’t working, but the thought of bringing three small children out in the snow can be quite challenging and physically exhausting. Now that they are finally old enough to walk around comfortably in their snow boots and bring their own sled up the hill, I finally have the ability to think rationally. I realized being a stay-at-home mom on a snow day is actually a lot LESS stressful than being a working mom and trying to coordinate last-minute day care, scramble with school delays or debating the cost of taking a sick or vacation day. Working moms have enough juggling to do without the added stress of a snow day.
Kids with stay-at-home parents really do have it made on snow days. They get to play in the snow as much as they want, have someone make hot chocolate for them and have someone around to put their snow clothes in the dryer so they are ready to go out again at any time. They can watch movies, play games, and play with other children in the neighborhood. The day, like so many days, is all about them and having fun. Do you think they appreciate it? I never realized what hoops my working parents had to jump through on snow days, but I certainly appreciate it now. I’m going to enjoy these last few snow days before I’m the mom worrying about what I am going to do with my kids when it snows!
