Tweens (ages 9-12) can be difficult to buy for during the holidays. They are too young for many toys and can be easily offended if you buy a “babyish” gift. Here are a few suggestions for both boys and girls.
The first book, The Maze of Bones, is about billionaire Grace Cahill who left her heirs 39 clues scattered around the world. At the end of the clues is an answer to a great family mystery. This will be a ten book series by Scholastic. Tweens will be thrilled because trading cards and a website are available as part of the series (sold separately from the book). Book number two will be available on December 2nd.
Let them wake up for school in style. This alarm clock lets you wake to music on the Ipod or go to sleep with music. Available through iHome in pink or black.
The Nickelodeon show iCarly has sparked such an interest in camcorders for tweens, that there is an iCarly camcorder made by Memorex. Better order fast, Toys R Us is out of stock, but will email you when it is available. 
If you are buying a camcorder for a boy, this might be a better option. Available at Museumtour.com .
Fatheads are very popular with tweens. I had never heard of them, but my son's friends were talking about them in the car. They are graphics of pro athletes, super heroes and entertainment icons that you can put on your wall. They can be removed without any residue and traded with other friends. They are available in lifesize figures or 5x7 tradeables.
Written by the editors at Klutz, tween can use this to trace different outfits and then add freehand accessories. It comes with paper, fine-tip pen, colored pencils and plastic plates to add color and patterns. And its only $21.95. Check out the website. There are lots of other "how to" books for tweens.
I’m not quite sure what to think about these, but they are popular and difficult to find. Bakugans are action-figure warriors, that are tucked into spheres that pop open when they're rolled onto a game card. It’s also a show on Cartoon Network.
Pay Day
Given the current economic times, this might be a good board game to play with the family. You can chose the length of the game (given the amount of months you choose to play). You make money, pay the bills and invest your money and see how much is left at the end.
Okay, this may be more for parents, but you slip these “skins” onto to the bottom of cleats and your cleats are instantly street shoes! Think of the mud that will be saved from getting in your car and on your floors!
