Robot 13 was created by writer Thomas Hall and artist Daniel Bradford, who both own Blacklist studios and both write King! The story of supernatural hitman, Jessie King, who looks and dresses just like Elvis.
Robot 13 starts out following a fishing crew in the late 1930's that happens upon what looks to be a broken robot. They also have the misfortune to be found by a giant cyclops octopus.
As you may have guessed, the Robot that came from the ocean floor doesn't stay deactivated throughout the trials of the sea-monster. After one man is swept up by the creature, the Robot takes action, and fights it with just a spear in hand and is brushed off as if it were only an inconvenience. Something about when the Robot is revived may imply that it had a former master it cared for and protected. Much more happens, but you'd be better advised to go pick up a copy.
Robot 13 runs much like a steampunk story with a Mike Mignola (Hellboy) look, probably because the art is almost identical, but somehow has a more sci-fi feel, even in it's human characters. The first issue was more than impressive and clearly expressed why the story will continue and how. Based on the first issue, it deserves to keep going, and is definitely a good title to check out.
