Getting into the comic biz is hard to do, while even publishing giants like Marvel and DC are tightening their budgets and can't afford to hire new talent, it's hard to know where to start. While no one seems to be making it big with their original art or comic book ideas, the boys at Modern Mythology Press are making their own way into the business right here in Arizona.

Based in Tucson, writer Eric M. Esquivel and writer/artist Dave Baker are exhibiting their work at events like Tucson and Phoenix Comic-Con and even free comic book day. They've already published 4 full comic books and are hoping to finish a 50-page graphic novel within the year entitled "Horrible Little People." The anchor title of the small publisher is called "Childish Delusions of Grandeur and Superiority," which can only be described as a zombie tale with ridiculously entertaining imagination and a character that they endearingly refer to as Zombie Nazi Elvis, whom is found on the cover of issue number 2 & 3. Granted that's not a lot of issues under that imprint, but at their website can find web comics written and illustrated by co-owner Dave Baker.

The website for is updated almost daily with new web comics or blogs to keep readers up to date with Modern Mythology news. They also hold weekly podcasts, all of which are archived for convenient listening at modernmythologypodcast.podbean.com/ They also sell apparel, stickers, buttons and even mugs that bear the MMP imprint.

Whilst many artists and writers struggle to make it working on comics, these two thrive in the local indie comic scene. Much of their work can be found at local shops like Spazdog comics, (www.spazdogcomics.com/) and if their track record is indicative of their future, you'll be hearing more about them soon.
