It’s time for the Annual NYC Food and Film Festival (www.nycfoodfilmfestival.com) from June 13-19.   Every night will feature food-focused films, and attendees will be able to taste foods inspired from the films. After kicking things off with two nights at Astor Center in Manhattan, the festival will screen films at Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City and at the new South Street Seaport location in Manhattan.  All events are FREE and open to the public, with a suggested donation of 2 cans of food to benefit the Food bank NYC.  Tasting portions of food from the films will also be FREE.
Highlights from the 2009 NYC Food Film Festival include: 

• Opening Night Gala (Saturday,June13, Astor Center at 6:30 p.m., $35) - will feature an intimate program held at the Astor Center, showcasing a pair of short films by Joe York: “Buttermilk: It Can Help” and “Mutton: The Movie.”  Guests will enjoy buttermilk from the now-famous Cruze Family Farm in Tennessee, and sublime Mutton barbecue prepared by R.U.B. BBQ Pit master Scott Smith served with authentic “Moonlite BBQ Sheep Dip” flown in especially for the night.  Tickets are on sale at www.astorcenternyc.com. ;  

•  In The Kitchen with Brad Farmerie (Sunday, June 14, Astor Center at 7:00 p.m. $85) - Watch Director Ron Mann’s “Know Your Mushrooms” while you enjoy mushrooms in various preparations by New York City chef Brad Farmerie (of Public and Double Crown) along with Harry Hawk’s famous aged rib eye cheese steaks.  Tickets are on sale at www.astorcenternyc.com
•  Kick-off at LIC Water Taxi Beach (Monday, June 15, Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City, 8:00 p.m. FREE) – Seven films ranging from a portrait of a Mississippi catfish joint (Eat or We Both Shall Starve) to an exposé on Malaysian street food (“Street Chows”) to a nail-biting super-short thriller about a stalk of celery and a knife (“Celeriac”). 
•  Cranberries, Cops and Robbers (Tuesday, June 16, Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City, 8:00 p.m. FREE) – The seven films include “Food Cops” about a hamburger and a hot dog hunting for a criminal on the streets of New York and “Sandwich Thief” where a fight over a sandwich leads to an unexpected conclusion. If you missed out on the opening night, enjoy Mutton barbecue prepared by R.U.B. BBQ Pitmaster Scott Smith and special cranberry cocktails from the festival’s Mixologist Marshall Altier’s (Fatty Crab, Insieme).
 • Deep fried and Drug Deals (Wednesday, June 17, Water Taxi Beach, South Street Seaport, 8:00 p.m. FREE) – Seven films including the world premiere of “Eat Your Fill” where a man embarks on his annual mission to eat every menu item at the Wisconsin State Fair that is either deep-fried or on a stick, and the film “24 Hours, 24 Million Meals: Feeding NYC” which is fascinating look behind the scenes at how New York City is fed. Features footage from Hunts Point Market, and a truffle purchase by Daniel Boulud that resembles a drug deal.
 •  Big Night (Thursday, June 18, Water Taxi Beach, South Street Seaport, 8:00 p.m. FREE) - Experience a special sensory screening of the food film classic "Big Night," starring Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini, while sampling the authentic timpano featured in the film.
 • Closing Night Awards Ceremony (Friday, June 19, Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City, 7:30 p.m. FREE) – Films include the world premiere of “Power of the Peep.”  Attendees will also have the power to vote for the “Audience Choice Award”, and this year’s official jury includes Laurence Kretchmer from Bobby Flay's Boldfood, chef Brad Farmerie from Public and Double Crown, Ed Levine from SeriousEats.com, New York City Film Commissioner Katherine Oliver, and Cat Greenleaf, a WNBC features reporter and TV Host.
