This Saturday, San Diego State plays in its second straight home game in its run through the 2009 conference games.
The good news is that Brady Hoke's squad is much better than anyone expected, turning a 2-10 team last season into a 4-4 group just two-thirds into this season.
The bad news is that the Mountain West Conference is replete with quality teams that boasts three AP Top 25 ranked universities.
On October 17, the Aztecs faced No. 18 Brigham Young and lost 38-28 in a valiantly fought game. Two weeks from now, SDSU will travel to the Rice-Eccles center and face the No. 17 Utah Utes.
Rounding out their schedule against ranked teams is their showdown at Qualcomm Stadium against the TCU Horned Frogs (8-0), who are ranked No. 6 in the nation.
The Aztecs, coming off a 23-20 win against the New Mexico Lobos, will face a team that can very easily run the table, with their biggest test coming next week at home against the Utes.
The Horned Frogs have allowed 13 points over the last three games, including a 41-0 shutout of UNLV last week. On offense, TCU has 123 points in those same three contests, topping out at 44 against Colorado State.
Gary Patterson's team has the top-ranked defense in the NCAA, allowing just 1886 yards in eight games. Their 11.1 points against average is third in the nation.
San Diego State's rushing attack is worst in the nation with 520 yards in eight games.
On offense, TCU's 35 touchdowns is ninth in the country, amassing 447 yards a game, tops in the conference.
On the other hand, Brady Hoke's team still struggles against even decent offensive squads, allowing nearly 3,000 total yards on offense.
The Aztecs require two more wins to be bowl-eligible for the first time in a decade, an amount of wins that can very well be reached by beating Wyoming at home at UNLV on the road in the last game of the season.
The Horned Frogs are ranked #4 in the coaches poll and are hoping that a win over the Aztecs coupled with an upset to either Florida, Alabama or Texas will vault them into a top two spot and a potential place in the BCS Championship Game next January.
