Recently, I linked to an article about the Chevrolet Volt that was written by Michael Leahy of the Washington Post. It seems that General Motor's retiring product guru, Bob Lutz, as taken umbrage, calling out the article as being based on a "Preconceived notion that simply isn’t true."
Why the outrage? GM has a lot riding on the Volt from a public relations perspective. Initially, this isn't going to be a money making car, but instead a halo vehicle for the entire company. GM hopes that the eco-chic Volt will reframe the former manufacturer of the Hummer as a clever, Prius beating techno-force. The Post's angle, that GM is ambivalent about the Volt, detracts from that image and Lutz isn't having any of it.
