If you are active, career, or retired military, a disabled veteran or Department of Defense employee, or a guest of someone who is, you are eligible to stay at a U.S. Military Campground and RV Park. With over 240 nation wide to choose from, chances are there is one near where you want to camp.
We were fortunate to be the guest of a career military family member and spent 7 nights at Hurlburt Field FamCamp. Located in Mary Esther Florida, on the Florida panhandle, 30 miles east of Pensacola, the park is woodsy, clean and quiet. Cement picnic area and BBQ grill are located next to spacious RV lots. There is salt water access but no swimming is allowed. Not to worry, there are plenty of beaches on the panhandle. This park does not accept reservations so it is first come first serve. Each FamCamp has its own reservation policy, be sure to check them out prior to traveling; you may want to have a back up plan just in case. We paid just $20 per night as a guest; military members will have a reduced price.
In fact, there is one near Cleveland in Port Clinton, Ohio; Camp Perry. Close enough for a weekend camp-away!
