According to Education Week, Maryland's public school system is the third best in the nation. The Quality Counts report looks at a number of factors and averages their grades together to come up with a state grade. Maryland, which rates a solid B, is below New York and Massachusetts.
Frankly, I'm shocked. I got a very solid elementary education in the Kent County, Delaware school system. In fact, I was actually a year ahead of my peers when I transfered to Maryland schools. Obviously, there has been a big improvement in Maryland schools, but was the improvement so big that our schools are better than almost any other state in the nation? The people compiling the Quality Counts report thought so, but I'd like to find out what you think.
Please let me know whether you agree that this state provides the third best education in the nation by voting in this poll and/or leaving a comment about Quality Counts.
