The two teams that will be vying for this year’s Presidents Cup have been finalized. After the top 10 points-earners on each side were locked in following the PGA Championship, USA captain Fred Couples and International captain Greg Norman had a few weeks to determine what two non-exempt players had earned spots on their respective teams. This morning Couples announced his picks: 2009 US Open champion Lucas Glover and one-time PGA Tour winner Hunter Mahan. Glover and Mahan were the two captains picks for the 2007 Presidents Cup, and sat at 11th and 13th places in the USA Presidents Cup standings after the PGA.
Greg Norman made two less conventional picks for his International team. He gave the Presidents Cup nod to countryman and protégé Adam Scott, who occupied 14th place on the International list and will compete in his fourth consecutive Presidents Cup this year. Norman’s other pick went to Japanese phenom Ryo Ishikawa, who captured his third victory on the Japan Golf Tour this past Sunday and vaulted to no. 47 on the Official World Golf Ranking. Ishikawa sat in 20th place on the International list after the PGA Championship. At the age of 17, Ishikawa will be the youngest competitor in Presidents Cup history.
