Hi!  My name is Shannyn Snyder, and I am part of the D.C. Family and Parent Examiner Team!  I am a married, WAHM (work at home mom) with two lovely daughters, a pre-K four-year old, and a 12-year old "tween."  The Junior-Kindergartener goes to a private school, and I homeschool the older one, which gives you an idea of some of the topics I can share with you!

I worked in "Corporate USA" for 12 years, commuting daily to and from Prince William County into Washington, D.C., as a legal assistant and then marketing manager.  I now work for an au pair company, and it's my third year with the agency, a terrific flexible, telecommuting job.  I also do plenty freelance writing, including for the Potomac News, and I am a fulltime grad student at George Mason University.

No stranger to multi-tasking, you will find that my main "Examiner goal" is to help busy moms "get" that they can "have it all," guilt-free, especially when it comes to reaching their own personal goals.  It doesn't all stop at motherhood.

So, what about those pumpkin patches in the title? I figured it was a great place to start with these baby steps to personal self-intervention.  Instead of waiting until January to plant some New Year's resolutions (aka faux resolutions), take a whiff of the crisp fall air, go for a walk through your local pumpkin patch and grab a pumpkin latte to-go, and decide now that Fall is a great time to start making resolutions - for keeps!

Whether it's a cooperative mom's day out to get a spice-colored pedicure or to enjoy that fragrant latte while reading your favorite tabloid magazine (it's okay if you are still on the July issue) or even if it's upstairs escape for a long shower with cinnamon-spiced shower gel, grab five extra minutes just for you and start today.

Oh, and here's the list of those local pumpkin patches for you and kids to enjoy this month - the colors, scent and laughter may inspire you!

Butler's Orchard, Germantown, MD: 301-972-3299

Summer's Farm, Frederick, MD: 301-620-9316

Cox Farms, Centreville, VA: 703-830-4121

Burke Nursery and Garden Center, Burke, VA: 703-323-1188

Don't worry, this is a short list.  There are over 40 easily-accessible pumpkin "farms" in the Washington, D.C. area which offer pumpkins, mazes, hayrides and more!  For more information, see the box below and Fall for Autumn!
