I am the first to admit that I was a bit of a big girl before I got pregnant, and was amazingly surprised I didn’t gain 300 trillion pounds while pregnant. I did gain around 40 pounds during the wonderful 9 months of carrying my wee one, and figured it would take forever to take it off. I had some pretty unrealistic goals for myself, but decided to dedicate myself to creating a new “me” after baby was born.
Choosing an exercise regime while pregnant and postpartum can be challenging, especially if you didn’t exercise much prior. It is important to take the time to staying in shape during pregnancy; it will make your labor lots easier. After baby’s birth, regular exercise will help keep energy levels high, and help you sleep better at night.
I am an at home work out person, or an enjoy the outdoors enthusiast. I have never joined a gym, paid to have a trainer, or rented a video to get my jiggling abs to firm up. I was surprised to find myself addicted to a set of Pilates videos I purchased on a whim. Ana Cabon’s Pilates for Weight Loss was more than I bargained for, and got me started on an amazing weight loss journey. (life.gaiam.com/gaiam/p/AnaCabanADancersEvolutionIntoPilates.html)

From there, I found myself using the car less and packing the baby into the stroller more. If you live in the city, your buns are probably going to turn into to steel from pushing your wee one up and down the many beautiful hills. I found by walking more, taking the time to work out while baby was napping, and not having ANY time to eat due to constantly attending to my new wee one helped me lose 10 pounds of that baby weight in about a month. I was addicted, and I kept going.
Before starting any work out regime, talk with your doctor about what is healthy for you. It is a good idea to wait 6 weeks or so after giving birth before starting anything strenuous. I know I didn’t even want to walk up stairs and the idea of jumping was insane for about 8 weeks after giving birth. Decide what is realistic for you as far as weight loss goes. I would love to weigh 120 pounds, but it is not the proper weight for my body. Unsure what your ideal weight should be? Check this out:

The most important thing is to have fun! Working out can be enjoyable and a great way to spend time with baby, or get out there and meet some other new moms. Here are a couple things to check out in San Francisco if you are looking to try something new and maybe lose some weight, too.
