The recent Plum Organics recall of a small batch of their Apple Carrot Baby Food, only from Babies R Us and Toys R Us stores from the BRU/TRU locations with an expiration date of May 21, 2010 and the UPC#890180001221, gives every baby mommy and daddy a moment of panic thinking about product recalls and potential harm to wee ones.
It seems that the Plum Organics recall is due to the formulation of the baby food being incorrect and not because of potential bacterial infestation or harmful reasons. But, what is next? On the wake of the Tylenol recall, how can parents keep on top of important recalls?
Have no fear – there is a way to keep up to date with product recalls and reasons why items are not safe for children. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission compiles a list that is easily accessible for parents to keep updated on various products that have been recalled. Taking the time to check in with it once in awhile helps educate parents about questionable products out there and to check cupboards, closets, and bedrooms for items that have been recalled to prevent harm to little ones.
Some items, such as car seats, include paperwork to fill out and return so companies can alert owners of product recalls. But, if parents don’t take the time to do this extra step they may miss out on important information.
Part of being a parent is creating a safe environment for our children. Keeping up with product recalls is an important step in keeping everyone safe and healthy. Double checks the US Consumer Product Safety Commission for recent recalls, discard any Apple Carrot Baby Food from Plum Organics, and don’t forget to mail in your car seat registration – even if that car seat is a year old!
