A Passing Fad? Then I guess Abe Lincoln was ahead of the game.
A very common misconception about vegetarianism is the fact that it is a new trend: a lifestyle that is fully embodying the 15-minutes of fame concept. However, research shows that quite a few historically prominent people practiced vegetarianism. There are also quite a few celebs and starlets of today that are noteworthy vegetarians that have been practicing this lifestyle for quite some time, regardless of their fame.
Abraham Lincoln, that’s right! The man whose face is imprinted on our American penny, was a vegetarian. Pretty neat. Some other historic veggie-lovers include illustrious artist Vincent van Goh, writer Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Civil Rights activist Rosa Parks. Looks like Ms. Parks took the front seat on a healthy lifestyle as well. As for modern-day vegetarians, singer/songwriter Alanis Morsette, indie-rock musician Jason Mraz, and comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres are just a few. Even performers from the 70’s and 80’s hone in on this lifestyle—rockstar Bryan Adams and singer Barry White included. I actually heard that the song “Can’t Get Enough (of your love, baby)” is about his love of vegetarianism. Just kidding… corny jokes aside, some legendary people have been strong followers of vegetarianism, which is somewhat exciting for us vegetarians. So for those who think that vegetarianism is a passing phase that will simply lose it’s luster when some other diet plan hits Hollywood, think again.
