A 24 Hour Comic Challenge will be held at the Hugo House in Seattle on July 18th & 19th.

SEATTLE – The Zine Archive and Publishing Project (ZAPP), a program of Richard Hugo House, hosts the 24 Hour Zine Challenge in the spirit of the national 24 Hour Zine Thing. The event begins Saturday, July 18, 10 a.m. and ends Sunday, July 19, 10 a.m.?

Inspired by the 24 Hour Comics Day, the 24 Hour Zine Challenge asks participants to create a 24-page zine in 24 hours. Without any outlines, prepared writings or previously made pages, comic artists, writers and zinesters will gather at ZAPP and begin a marathon to create a complete and original zine, staying up into the night and the early hours of the morning to do so. For this test of creative endurance, participants can draw inspiration from over 20,000 zines in ZAPP’s collection as well as use the archive’s myriad of supplies, feed off of the energy of others feverishly producing their own unique zines and enjoy the snacks and refreshments provided, though everyone is encouraged to bring along a bagged lunch/breakfast for the long night-time hours.?

As a bonus, participants get to spend the night in Richard Hugo House, a nonprofit literary center in a Victorian house that dates to 1902. The event will be located in ZAPP on the second floor of Richard Hugo House, and participants will have access to the zine archive, numerous supplies and ample workspace. ZAPP has been housed on the second floor of Hugo House since September 13, 2008. The House exudes a rich history; in the past, it has been a mortuary and funeral home and the location of New City Theater. This hauntingly literary space will help keep creative juices flowing for the 24 hour marathon.
