  Rachel Fife: Madden

Congratulations to Madden, our Dog of the Week! Madden is a lucky Miniature Dachshund mix that was adopted just in the nick of time. When she arrived at the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, she was filthy, scared and emaciated. The shelter was going to euthanize Madden if her owner did not claim her within 72 hours, but fortunately Rachel Fife saw the poor mini-Dachshund mix on PetHarbor.com and knew she needed to rescue Madden.

The staff at the animal shelter advised Rachel against adopting Madden thinking her emaciated frame was due to illness, but Rachel knew better and decided to adopt Madden anyway. Days later, Madden’s new vet confirmed that she was just starving – not sick. And thanks to plenty of food and a loving owner, Madden gained 10 pounds in no time.

Today, Madden is happy and healthy, and even has siblings – two dogs and two cats. She loves car rides, and carrying around her stuffed squeaky toy, Mr. Carrot. Madden also has a few tricks up her paw. She can sit up like a squirrel for long periods of time, run up the stairs really fast, and jump onto the bed without assistance – not bad considering her short legs and her start in life.

Congratulations to Madden, our Dog of the Week!
