Dog lovers, mark your calendars for Houston’s biggest and best dog event of the year: The Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows from July 16 – July 19, 2009. This year’s special guest will be Stump, the reigning winner of the Westminster Dog Show, so be sure to stop by and say, “Hello!” to the Sussex Spaniel. (Note: Stump will be at the Houston Dog Show on Saturday and Sunday only from 10 AM – 2 PM).
There will be over 150 breeds and over 12,000 dogs at the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows. Make the dog show a fun family day out by watching dogs catch Frisbees, dance to music, and compete in agility, flyball, and conformation.
"Meet the Breed" is a great way for children and adults to learn about different dog breeds first-hand by petting the dogs and talking to their owners and breeders. It’s a great way to decide which dog is right for you. Look for unusual breeds like the Leonberger, a mixture of a Newfoundland, a Pyrenean Mountain Dog (aka The Great Pyrenees), and a Saint Bernard – and probably one of the sweetest breeds you’ll ever meet.
Be sure to stop by the Rescue Groups for an opportunity to meet wonderful dogs available for adoption and to support their cause. Learn about responsible dog ownership by watching one of the clinics as they describe grooming techniques, training, and dog health. There will also be a plethora of vendors selling dog supplies including food, collars, leashes and just about everything you can think of relating to dogs – including carriages.
Check out the Mari Jon Filla Student Art Exhibit, and CAP’s Designer Dog House Competition and Silent Auction.
The doors open to the public at 8 AM, July 16 – July 19, 2009. The cost for adults is $10, and children under 12 (with an adult) are free. Senior citizens receive a 50% discount. Tickets are available at the Reliant Center or through Ticketmaster. Parking is $8 for the entire day.
The Reliant Center is fully air conditioned, and food and beverages are available throughout the center.
