I always knew Cocker Spaniels had a good nose, but I didn’t know they could sniff out money. Rocco isn’t even two years-old, yet he has already completed six weeks of training for the Fife Constabulary in Scotland.
The old saying that someone’s loss is another’s gain is true in Rocco’s case, because he is actually an unwanted pet. Rocco has also been trained to find drugs and will be taught to find firearms in the future – not a bad gain for the good guys.
According to Sergeant Davy McKelvie, spaniels helped seize nearly $5,000,000 in 2008. Their snouts seek Euro and Sterling notes where large amounts of cash are often found with illegal substances.
Rocco won’t be alone in his new venture; two more spaniels, Isla and Gem, have also been recruited. Now, if only I could get my English Cocker Spaniel to help me find some extra cash.
