Racing fans gathered at Brevard Community College in Palm Bay this past weekend to participate in an autocross in the SCCA Solo II series.
The weather was threatening, with dark clouds looming over the site most of the day, and a light sprinkle was felt at one point. But the event went on as planned with no interruption.
A total of 66 drivers entered the race, who were driving a wide variety of cars ranging from a fully-prepared Austin Mini to Corvette Z06s. Also included was a class which allowed youngsters to participate in go-karts.
The course was set up in a parking lot, with cones to guide the drivers. It was quite challenging, with several fast sections where some cars were able to reach close to 60mph. There were also several hairpin corners which kept all the drivers' lead foots in check.
It was a very enjoyable event. People who were new to racing got some practice, and others who have more racing experience were able to keep their skills honed.
Don't forget to check out the results as well as view the SCCA Solo2 website for rules, a schedule for upcoming events, and results and pictures of past events.
