“Some Hotels accept dogs. Others tolerate dogs. At the Paw House Inns, we cater to dog owners.”
That's the tag-line for two of the best vacations money can buy that encourage you to bring your best friend along. Located in Vermont, with mountains looming just outside your window, these beautiful B & Bs offer clean, comfortable, homey escapes for their 2- and 4-legged guests.
Frustrated with the difficulties they encountered when trying to book vacations with their dogs, Mitch Frankenberg and his wife, Jen, set out to make their “dream come true” – that is, to create a “unique dog-centric” getaway.
Upon arrival, guests are given a tour of the facilities which include a large dog-park, outfitted with agility equipment, and “Mario’s Playhouse” - a climate-controlled building complete with television (tuned to Animal Planet – what else?) outfitted with comfortable ‘runs,' where you can leave your dog, free of charge, should you wish to adventure without your pet. Guests are also handed a list of local dog-friendly hikes, watering holes and restaurants! At the Inn in West Rutland, that includes the Lake House, an elegant place for dinner housed on the shores of Lake Bomoseen where you can dine waterside listening to live music while your pooch sits in your lap or lies at your feet.
The newer location, in Mount Snow, sports an indoor play area large enough to hold both agility classes and weddings (the human kind). They also have groomers and trainers on hand. And if you need the spruce up, you can book your own massage at the Serenity Spa.
This coming Labor Day Weekend, The Paw House Inn in Mt Snow will host “Dogapawlooza” – a weekend-long celebration of dogs and what they bring to our lives. There will be trick contests, agility and training experts and demonstrations, along with musical performance. All proceeds will go to various animal charities around the country.
