Recently hubby and I went into Caposey’s Whole Works Restaurant and it brought back really good memories. We used to help the previous owners by managing the restaurant a couple of days a week.
It has been 5 years since Brenda and Bill sold the business to Nancy and John, and I am ashamed to say that I hadn’t been to try out their delicious homemade food, during that period.
If you haven’t found this really cute restaurant, then drive north on U.S.19, and just go a little past Main Street. On the south east corner of Green Key Road, you will find it. It lies back off of the road and the parking lot is in front of it, with some parking to the side. Here is a little secret for you, on Sundays when all restaurant are jamming, you can park in the Davis Plaza parking lot and just walk across the street.
As I walked into the restaurant I immediately felt like I was coming home. To the left is a small table, and then ahead is the big round family table. Turning to your right is the main dining area. The restaurant is decorated with all kinds of ornaments, but mainly cows. Nancy told me that customers love to bring them in to adorn the shelves and walls.
John is normally in the kitchen but he popped out for a few minutes to chat to us. Restaurants are in his blood, as his father owned three restaurants in the Chicago area. Therefore he started learning the trade at the age of 13. He told me that he started at the bottom before becoming a cook. John has been in Florida for 25 years and worked at the Sea Market, Denny’s and Kissin Cousins.
Nancy is mainly in the front of house, but everyone loves it when she makes her Portuguese soup, with sausage, ham, and collard greens. I will have to telephone, and find out when it is next, on the menu. I love trying something new. Nancy told me that they are working on a web page and I will add that when I receive the details. She said that her customers ‘Come and join their family’ and that they love them all. They want their customers to feel comfortable and have a ‘Home from home’.
Another thing that Nancy loves to do is give back to the community, and they help the Life Point Christian Church, with the food pantry.
In my second part of this series I will write about their amazing Eggs Benedict, pancakes, and grits that you can eat as they are. Yes, really, they don’t need butter, sugar, honey, salt, or anything on them.
