As today is ‘Corn Dog Day’, I am heading over to the Chasco Fiesta, in downtown New Port Richey, to check out the food tents. Chasco runs now through March 29th, and today is the street parade, starting at 1.00 p.m.
There is so much to see and do at the Chasco Fiesta, but my mind is set on having a corn dog.
Can you believe that I hadn’t heard of them, let alone tried one, until I came to America? Checking out the history of the corn dog, there is a debate as to whether the first one was in 1929, or sometime between 1938 and 1942. There is also a claim for the first corn dog on a stick being served in 1946.
The basic corn dog is a hotdog or wiener, covered in a cornmeal batter, and then cooked. They are mainly seen at carnivals, sports events, concerts, and wherever people get together for entertainment.
They can also be purchased in restaurants, the frozen kind in supermarkets, for cooking at home.
However you like your corn dog, today is the day, to get eating.
