This is the time of year, when we have the freshest, best tasting, and cheapest strawberries around.
Why not make good use of them. Not only can you make Strawberry Shortcake, but why not use them in other recipes.
For busy Mom's that have a million and one things to do, just purchase a Betty Crocker, or similar cake mix, for 88 cents in Wal-Mart for your cake. Make the cake in 2 round cake tins.
Then you can slice strawberries, chop up some walnuts, add these to cool whip, or beaten whipped cream, and sandwich your cake together, with the mixture. On the top of the cake put more whipped topping, and then put either halved strawberries, on whole ones to decorate. If you don't like walnuts, then you can add blueberries, or whatever you prefer.
Make plain yogurt fun, by chopping up fresh, local strawberries, and layering it in a sundae dish. Top it off with either yogurt, cream, cool whip, and a strawberry.
Make a sherry, rum, or brandy trifle, using fresh strawberries.
Use them in a fresh fruit salad.
Slice strawberries and put them in your morning cereal. I even enjoy cereal for an anytime meal.
The suggestions are endless, so when our local strawberries are plentiful, why not take advantage of them. If you prefer to be waited on, then check out the Florida Strawberry Festival.
There is no nicer way, to get your daily intake of fruits, and vegetables.
