Earlier I was reading about the salmonella outbreak, and how it had hit 666 people, as well as the nine deaths linked to it. Even though we are over the worst of the 'peanut butter' outbreak, it was stated that it is still affecting people, after the recall.
This was a horrifying way to bring this subject out in the open, but there are around 40,000 cases of reported salmonella, in the U.S. every year. I truly believe that this figure is low, as so many people get it, and either don't realize it, or don't report it. It is imperative when cooking eggs, that they are handled properly, and cooked sufficiently to prevent salmonella occurring. There was a chain of restaurants that used to keep their eggs above the grill. I must admit I haven't been in there since seeing this. Also, I noticed that the cooks didn't wash their hands, they just wiped them on a cloth. Now you know that egg, could be on their hands, and then they handle, chicken? As a consumer, and a customer, you have to look out for yourself. When cooking at home, remember the rule of washing your hand, with soap, in hot water, for 30 seconds.
