On Christmas Eve I wrote the article on 'How this cook watches her weight', and today I wanted to let you know the results.
As stated in the article I didn't skimp on my food. I enjoyed choosing my favorite hors d'oeuvres at the party. Yes, I went for cheese, which I love, but also added cherry tomatoes, instead of piling on the meatballs. I really took my time eating my food, and made sure of not checking other peoples plates. It is really hard not to look, when someone only has two hands, and three plates of food.
I just had to have an alcoholic egg nog, even though they had the virgin ones. Then to finish off, rather than have a big piece of cake, you know the birthday cake style, with the heavy icing on it, I walked over to the table and chose a chocolate instead. I even went back for a second egg nog, as the first one was so good.
At the second party, which was 3 hours later, I really didn't want to eat too much, or drink. I would have been embarrassed if I hadn't have accepted one drink. They were drinking Kahlua and cream. I sipped on this for 2 hours, while chatting. Finally I had to eat a little something, and went for the olives, a slice of cheese, and a couple of wheat crackers. Then dessert came out, which I had to sample.
Christmas day, I ate my own prepared turkey dinner, with white meat, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seven vegetables, gravy, sausage-meat stuffing, and a little cranberry. I skipped dessert completely.
Over the next few days I ate some chocolates, sausage rolls, rich fruit cake, topped with marzipan and Royal icing, nuts, and a couple of dates. What I did was stick to my cereal, with fruit and 1% milk in the mornings, and had fruit, apple sauce, or yogurt for a snack.
I make a point of NOT weighing myself during any holiday period. So today, was the day, that I got on the scales. I looked down and am extremely happy to say that I still weigh 127 pounds. If I did put on that pound, which I may have done, I have given myself time to take if off again.
There has never been a holiday, or time when I have not eaten my favorite foods. What is important, is that I choose the food I love, and enjoy a little of it. This way I never get bored with what I eat. Moderation is the key to a healthy, happy, person, who isn't overweight.
