Do you love ribs? Then you have to try Pit Boss Bar-b-q in New Port Richey. Gary Taylor has been the owner since 1985 and it really shows to the guests, or should I say friends, that eat in his restaurant. This is a typical neighborhood bar/restaurant were anyone feels comfortable. When you enter the front door, the bar is immediately in front of you and to the left is the dining area.
Before even sitting down at a table, you will notice the pictures of celebrities on the walls. Between them are the charity plaques. Over the years the Pit Boss Bar-b-q has done well in the New Port Richey area, so Gary believes in giving back to the community. The charities are endless, and even when Gary doesn't give the food for free, he will do it at cost for them.
The restaurant is Vegas style and the tables have cards, dice, and other gaming items embodied in them. This is certainly a unique restaurant. At one time there was also a Pit Boss at the Outback Steakhouse Plaza, but when Carrabba's opened up in the same Plaza, there was not enough parking for all the restaurants. It disappointed many of us locals when the Pit Boss closed that location.
I asked Gary why he had chosen to open this restaurant on Little Road, right by old S.R. 54. It can hardly be seen from the road and lays back. He smiled and told me that it hadn't been easy until K-Mart opened opposite the restaurant and business increased. Then once you have tried the food you will come back time and time again.
You want to know about the food, but there is so much on the menu which is really great. My favorite is the Chopped Pork Platter @ $8.49, and I think that is one of their biggest sellers.
