Seniors will remember the free meals, from the beginning of November, through to the end of December last year. These were given to entice people into joining one of the Medicare Advantage Plans, Supplement Plans, P.P.O's, H.M.O.'s, rather than stay with Medicare.
Seniors were inundated with fliers in the mail, in the newspapers, and even phone calls. This year it has changed.
Medicare have told these companies that they can only offer dessert, or a snack, with a non-alcoholic beverage.
This really delighted me, because last year Len and I did check out around 5 different seminars, and sat with people that openly told us that they did two of these a day, to get free lunch and dinner.
We recently went to a seminar to be updated on the 2009 coverage, and the person conducting it actually told us that last year they had a couple that changed their names at different venues, so that they could eat for free.
So this year if you want the facts about Medicare 2009 and the different companies that give you extra benefits, other than Medicare alone, you will have to sit through a one to two hour presentation, and then have coffee and a piece of cake.
No free lunches or dinners.
