SAN FRANCISCO---The San Francisco Giants return home from a 10-game road trip still holding on to first place in the Wild Card by half a game. Tonight they welcome the Houston Astros to the city for a three-game series.
Rookie Ryan Sadowski takes the mound for the home team. It will be the 26-year-old’s second big league start. In his last start, he gave up only four hits in six scoreless innings. The Giants won the game 7-0 over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Astros send their own rookie, Felipe Paulino, to the mound to face the Giants. Tonight will be Paulino’s first start against San Francisco. He has started nine games this season and has earned a 2-4 record with a 3.35 ERA. In his last start, the 25-year-old allowed three hits and one run in seven innings in the Astros 8-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Despite the odd delay in San Diego caused by a swarm of bees gathering by the left field foul line, the Astros were able to complete the game and beat the San Diego Padres, taking three from four from the team. The Astros enter tonight’s game on a two-game winning streak.
The Giants are the opposite, coming into tonight’s game on a two-game losing streak. Despite their recent losses, the team has won eight of their last 13 games. San Francisco had the second-highest winning percentage in the National League for the month of June (17-10, .630), behind the Colorado Rockies (21-7, .750).
