Colorado Rockies Matt Holliday

There have been numerous reports that the Oakland A’s will soon obtain Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies. Other names that have been swirling around this acquisition are the A’s Greg Smith, Huston Street, and Carlos Gonzalez.

In 2008, Holliday hit .321 with 25 home runs and 88 RBI. In 2007, he was awarded with a Silver Slugger and came in a close second in NL MVP votes.

In other trade rumor news, if anyone was crossing their fingers and hoping the Giants would acquire Jimmy Rollins from the Philadelphia Phillies, the team’s GM set the record straight saying the rumor was “ludicrous.”

Recently, ESPN’s Buster Olney expressed his belief that the Giants would be a perfect fit for C.C. Sabathia.  With the Giants in need of a facelift, Olney states that Vallejo native Sabathia would “embrace the responsibility of representing the Giants in the best possible way, and embrace the challenge of making the team competitive again.”

I agree that the Giants need that source of leadership, but the team also needs offense. With that said, I would still love to see Big C.C. in a Giants uniform.

Speaking of dominating pitchers, tomorrow is the day that the N.L. Cy Young will be awarded to this year’s winner. San Francisco's Tim Lincecum is coming through as the favorite. While the Giants’ 18-game winner may not have the most wins, he looks to be favored in this category. Other contenders are Arizona’s Brandon Webb, Milwaukee’s C.C. Sabathia, and New York’s Johan Santana.
