On the Chicago's city flag, there are two blue stripes, one represents the Chicago River and the other represents Lake Michigan.
Visitors can explore both of these waterways on the fleet of Mercury Skyline Cruiseline. There are a number of tours to choose from, depending on what a visitor would like to see.
The Urban Adventure Cruise is a 90-minute cruise where commentary and historic information is provided about the 17 bridges, 82 buildings and landmarks along the river and lake.
The City Lights Extravaganza Cruise spends two hours on the river and lake and takes passengers along the lakefront to see the night time Buckingham Fountain light display.
Mercury also features the only Canine Cruise in the city. Thus, if your family includes Fido, pack up your pup to go along for the ride. Canine cruises sail on Sundays at 10 a.m., July 12 through September 27.
This writer has personally enjoyed the fireworks cruise because being on the water is a great perspective to see fireworks over the city. On Wednesdays and Saturdays during the summer, depart the dock at 8:30 p.m. for a 90-minute lakefront cruise and see the fireworks from Navy Pier.
Check Mercury's Web site for more tour information, fees and departure times.
