Universal Orlando's highly anticipated Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster does not yet have an opening date scheduled, but today Theme Park Insider raised speculation that the coaster will hold its long awaited soft opening as early as this Fourth of July weekend.
"One of our go-to Universal Orlando insiders says the word going around the park is that the long-delayed Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit roller coaster might be opened to visitors on a soft opening basis as early as this weekend," said Robert Niles, founder and editor of Theme Park Insider.
Since the start of the peak tourist season, Universal Orlando has kept mum regarding an opening date for Rip Ride Rockit. But recently progress has been made in its preparation. Universal recently ran tests on the ride with water dummies and began readying coaster-themed souvenirs. This week also marked the launch of a social media marketing campaign on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to promote Rip Ride Rockit, using the fictional rock star Syd Vinyl as their spokesperson.
CoasterCrew.com posted a video of the queue line (embedded below) at Rip Ride Rockit, which shows some of the artists and songs you can listen to while riding the coaster. The sneak preview gives a snippet of selectable songs in the Club/Electronica and Classic Rock/Metal genres, in addition to a first look at the animated characters giving ride instructions. According to the queue video, passengers have 30 seconds to make their song selection.
The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit soundtrack includes:
A total of 30 songs - six songs in five genres - will be available for selection during the ride. In addition to Club/Electronica and Classic Rock/Metal, the other genres on Rip Ride Rockit are Rap/Hip Hop, Country, and Pop/Disco.
More details on the attraction's rumored soft opening and soundtrack will be posted as they follow.
