In honor of Veterans Day, many restaurants and retailers are offering freebies or discounts for veterans and active duty military with ID. Applebee's, Golden Corral and Krispy Kreme are just a few of the chains reaching out to our military to commemorate Veterans Day.

Beyond that, many Orlando attractions offer discounts for members of the military throughout the year, not only on Veterans Day. Some of these discounts are offered for limited periods, while others are available all the time.

Walt Disney Parks has a reputation for acknowledging the hard work carried out by our armed forces. Disney World is no exception, offering many military discounts at its parks and resorts. One of its current promotions is the Armed Forces Salute, which offers active and retired members of the military one complimentary five-day Park Hopper ticket and the chance to purchase companion tickets for up to five family members for $99 (plus $25 if you wish to add the Park Hopper feature). This promotion will expire on Dec. 23, so time is running out.

Disney also has a resort exclusively for military personnel and their families, Shades of Green Resort, tucked away between two golf courses located near the Magic Kingdom. An Armed Forces Recreation Center, Shades of Green is a deluxe level resort designed to give military families the best rate on their stay at Disney. Resort guests can take advantage of other military discounts for Orlando attractions, including Disney World's Magic Your Way Stars and Stripes Tickets, which give access to all four of Disney's parks, both of its water parks and other Disney property attractions for a set number of days.

Off Disney, Nickelodeon Family Suites has a military special that includes up to 20 percent off regularly priced rates, plus 10 percent off on-site food and beverages and 20 percent off at the Kid's Spa. You can find out more about military discounts at Nickelodeon Family Suites by calling 1-877-642-5111 and asking for the Military Specials Package.

Universal Orlando has a limited time offer for military personnel, offering one free two-park unlimited admission ticket good for six days from date of first use, along with discounted companion tickets priced at $90, up until Dec. 18. Tickets must be obtained by an active duty of retired military service member at a military base. The Blue Man Group show at CityWalk also has a military discount, currently set at $49; general admission is $84.

Members of the military who register on HeroSalute.com can gain single-day admission to any one of Busch Entertainment Corporation's theme parks, including SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa.

Military discounts are also available outside the major theme parks. Dinosaur World in Plant City offers year admission year round to active duty military personnel with military ID at the time of purchase, plus $1 off for dependents with dependent military ID. Skydive Space Center in Titusville, which offers skydiving experiences from the world's highest tandem jump, lets military members skydive for $175.

The Orange County Regional History Center, which will offer free admission to veterans on Veterans Day, admits members of the military on all other days for $7 with valid ID, $2 off the general admission price of $9. The Orlando Museum of Art also charges $7 for military personnel, a dollar off the $8 general admission price.

If you have a member of your family who's a veteran or currently serving in the military and you plan to visit Orlando, remember these tips for saving money with military discounts.
