Besides racing and the beach, Daytona Beach is known for its bikers. And the city salutes bikers in mid-October with Biketoberfest, an internationally-recognized motorcycle festival featuring motorcycle shows and rallies, among many other events happening all over. This year's Biketoberfest will take place on Oct. 15-18.

One of the first events of Biketoberfest is also one of the most famous, the Ol' School Bike Show, hosted by Willie's Tropical Tattoos at 825 Yonge Street in Ormond Beach. The show, mentioned in several biker-related publications, is usually regarded as one of the best motorcycle shows in the nation, an authentic experience with a focus on regular people showing off their choppers. The Ol' School Bike Show will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 15. To view articles about and photos from past events, visit the web site for Willie's Tropical Tattoos, but some material might not be suitable for younger audiences.

Bruce Rossmeyer's Destination Daytona, an entertainment complex adjacent to Daytona Harley-Davidson on US-1 in Ormond Beach (the world's largest Harley-Davidson dealership), will have live music and hundreds of vendors daily, bikini contests over the weekend and the Rat's Hole Custom Bike Show on Saturday Oct. 17. Near Daytona Harley Davidson's other location on Beach Street in Daytona Beach, Riverfront Park will also have live music and vendors, plus a muscle car display and Gibson guitar giveaway.

Daytona International Speedway will have its annual Fall Cycle Scene, featuring a number of different events including free test rides, the Monster Dash for the Boys & Girls Club of Daytona Beach and the 8 Hours At Daytona AMA Pro Racing SunTrust Moto-GT Series. Next door at the Daytona 500 Experience, admission will be free on Oct. 16 and 17.

Many of Daytona's bars and restaurants will have live music from local bands throughout the weekend; some of the highlights include the Bank & Blues featuring performances from The Razorbacks (10:30 p.m. Oct. 15-17 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 18) and Push (6:30 p.m. Oct. 15-17 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18) and Boot Hill Saloon featuring performances from AC/DC tribute band Highway To Hell (9 p.m. Oct. 15-17) and Ozzy Osbourne tribute band Bark At The Moon (3 p.m. Oct. 17). Charlie Daniels will perform a free concert at Edgewater Ranch at the intersection of I-95 (off exit 244) and State Road 442 on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. For more live music information, Daytona Rock, a web site devoted entirely to Daytona Beach's live music scene, has a full calendar of events.

Admission to most Biketoberfest events is free. For a more extensive list of Biketoberfest events, visit the official Biketoberfest web site and Daytona Bike Week Events.
