#4: Fourth of July Celebration at Avalon Park

In East Orlando, near Waterford Lakes and UCF, sits the town of Avalon Park. Built with a vibe similar to Celebration, Avalon Park boasts southern charm and hospitality on the edge of urban Orlando. The fourth of July celebration they have planned will transport you all the way to Smalltown, USA!

Avalon Park has the hours of 5 pm to 9 pm packed with activities. There are too many to list them all, but here are the highlights ....

1. Not everyone can get to Coney Island for Nathan's annual hot dog eating contest. Avalon Park's version starts at 7:30 pm at the bandshell. Visit the website listed below to apply online. Better start stretching your stomach now!

2. A demonstration of America's pastime will start at 5:00 pm. The area's best sluggers will knock a few out of the park, to earn the title "Home Run Derby champion."

3. Residents are invited to join in the bike parade. The kick-off is at 5:30 pm in front of the YMCA. It's a great way to work up an appetite before the hot dog eating contest!

4. The apple pie bake-off winner will be announced around 8 pm. If you think you have the sweetest pie or crispiest crust, fill out an application on the website listed below.

5. The evening is topped off with musicians and dancers performing all night at the Town Park Stage and the Founders Square Stage. Whether you are a fan of clogging or jazz, there is an act on tap for you!

All the events are free, and there are no bad viewing spots for the fireworks show at 9 pm. Avalon Park is a great place to celebrate the fourth of July!

For more info: Avalon Park has a website, with information on all events scheduled for the year, including application forms for vendors and contest participants. You must register in advance to participate in the hot dog eating contest, or the apple pie bake-off.
