Everyone looks forward to fireworks and hot dogs on the fourth of July. This list describes the best places to be in Central Florida for the biggest celebration of the summer. Some events feature the night sky light displays that we all love, while others are daytime gatherings with food and family. Time to dive in!

#9: Red, White, and Zoo

Celebrate the Central Florida Zoo's 34th birthday and the fourth of July at the same time. From 9 am to 3 pm, on July 4th, the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford will have music, food, games, and crafts for families to enjoy together.

Throughout the park, docents will have animal encounters set up so you can get a close look at some amazing animals, and ask as many questions as you'd like.

Best of all, there will be the watermelon eating contest. What's better on a hot July day than that? Bring your appetite for fruit, but beware... the Central Florida Zoo has a pair of ringers. The two ladies pictured here can fit entire watermelons in their mouths, so even Takeru Kobayashi doesn't stand a chance!

Besides the additional treats and booths spread around the zoo, all of your favorite animals will be available for viewing.

If you haven't been in a while, you may not have seen the two new attractions at the Central Florida Zoo. The Wharton-Smith, Inc. Tropical Splash Ground is the perfect place to let the kids cool off. ZOOm Air Adventures opened at the end of April. ZOOm features three tree-top zipline courses so that you can get a birds-eye view of all of the animals. The Splash Ground is included with admission, but there is a cost to try out the zipline ($20-$35 depending upon the package). Check out Wendy Greene's review of the new zipline experience here.
