With all the noise surrounding Denver forward Tyler Bozak and his impending professional career, there are several other players on this year's ousted squad that may also make the jump to the pro leagues.
But Patrick Wiercioch, a second-round pick of the Ottawa Senators (the top team vying for Bozak), will not be leaving the ice at Magness Arena. At least not for another season. Wiercioch was third on the team in scoring (35 points in 36 games), with 12 goals to his name. The 6-4, 185-pounder obviously still has some weight to gain and will benefit from another year in the WCHA. With stats like his this season, there's no reason not to believe he will exceed the 40-point mark next season.
As Bozak weighs his options, junior forward Rhett Rakhshani (a New York Islanders prospect) will most likely take a look at his as well. The 5-11, 190-pound forward from California has been solid in his three seasons at DU, producing close to a point a game and scoring 40 goals in that time. This article puts him as the fifth-best Islanders prospect not with the team.
Despite losing Bozak, and potentially Rakhshani, the Pioneers have a solid freshman class coming in this fall that should help pick up some of the slack left behind by outgoing players. Drew Shore (local kid), William Wrenn and Adam Murray were recently chosen to play for Team USA at the World U-18 championships in Fargo, N.D./Moorhead, Minn. 2010 recruit Jason Zucker was also chosen for that squad.
