The former 90's heartthrob seems to still have that magic touch when it comes to releasing successful albums, because he is sitting pretty on the top of Billboard's R&B album charts.
Ginuwine released his 6th studio album A Man's Thoughts after a 4-year hiatus last week Tuesday (06.23). On this album, Ginuwine reunited with the essential individuals that contributed to his chart topping success in the mid to late 90's, Timbaland and Missy Elliot , to add their personal touches to the up-tempo track "Get Involved".
Though A Man's Thoughts had a couple of good songs, the album in personal opinion was missing an important element. A lot of artists that tend to age with the genre, hardly ever just mold their styles to their current realities. Ginuwine was a major artists from 1996-2001. He was well known for his pretty boy looks and his--what most would call--skilled dance moves.
To see him breaking out mediocre dance moves for his video for his song "Last Chance" was a sight that would not have been missed had it not occurred. Not to compare, but we have been exposed to the dance moves of Chris Brown who--at this moment-- is unmatched in dancing skills; anyone that dare incorporate dancing in their music must be prepared to bring it and bring it hard.
Ginuwine has a style that can appeal to both the young and mature audiences of R&B if he does his best to pave a new road where he appears to be original. Trying to prove that you still got it in this state of the game is a waste of time. There is no doubt that Ginuwine still has it, it is a question if the fans are still interested in seeing what he has.
In other words, rapper Jay-Z released his brand new video for his street single "D.O.A. (Death Of Autotunes)" earlier this week. Instead of appearing in the video draped in jewels with a Yankee fitted tipped to the side, he appeared in the video as a grown man would. He carried himself like a mature gentleman.
That last statement was said to prove the point that even though artists may change and may be pushed to side by the freshman class, that does not mean they can not bask in their seniority. Hopefully this will not be the last we see of Ginuwine, because he has so much more to offer.
